Summer nights in Venice beach’s main street are crowded, cheerful, loud and lively. Shima is an amazing small sushi bar in a modern glass cube. Once you’ve crossed the gate, you feel like you’ve walked into the intimacy of someone’s apartment. The space is magically quiet and the service delicate and attentive. Seats and crockery feature pastel colors that are vibrant light and sophisticated. In the open kitchen, ingredients are tidily split into portions. The chefs master their culinary art with irony and cook superb dishes. Try the sauté spinach, any of the rolls with brown rice and fish tartare and the slightly spicy lobster with avocado.
