Veronique strives to make design accessible through the vacation experience. Together with her partner Heinz, she has been designing, building and decorating boutique hotels and vacation homes for over 12 years. From Verana in the jungles of Mexico, to Far Meadow in the High Sierras, they have built extraordinary vacation homes from the ground up and welcomed guests from around the world. As their motto goes, Boutique Homes (their curated website of architectural vacation rentals) is ‘tailor-made for people for whom style is more obsession than afterthought’. At their Topanga home – an idyllic mid-century modern in the mountains just south of Malibu – the sun shines even when Los Angeles is cloudy. And their place is available for rent on the website too! Born in Paris, Veronique moved to California in her twenties, and spends every summer with her family in Corsica, while living and working between LA, Yosemite and Mexico.
If you could close your eyes and be somewhere else, where would you want to be?
Here in Topanga. It’s the best of 2 worlds; country living next to LA and the light is beautiful. I’m always happy to be back home in the canyon.
The restaurant where you feel at home.
I always feel at home at our restaurant at Verana. We’ve had some amazing chef’s over the years who are very experimental and constantly surprise us with their creativity. One of our favorites is our friend Lalo who has opened a popular place in Mexico City called Maximo Bistro.
A hotel room that makes you nostalgic.
The simplicity and color combinations of the Todos Santos Hotel in Baja California. I felt at home there right away and loved the beauty of the desert meeting the ocean.
A travel you could do over and over again without getting bored.
Road trip on Hwy. 1 along the California coast always amazes me. I invariably find cool new places to discover.
A dish that recently surprised you.
A grasshoper taco! (Chapulines in Spanish). Surprisingly crunchy and good!
A holiday place from your childhood.
Returning to Corsica in the summertime with days of endless freedom.
If a kid asked you to take him/her on a trip, where would that be?
To Far Meadow. It’s the picture perfect spot in a spectacular meadow that makes you feel like you are in a Disney Movie. It’s great for kids. The fresh air and altitude goes straight to their head! And they end up running around looking for frogs and exploring. It’s also a great place for evening campfires under the stars.
If you could choose a dream place to celebrate, what would that be?
The Brando on Tetearoa Island in the South Pacific. The atoll looks so amazing and you can have it mostly to yourself.
A view you will never forget.
The view from Zabriskie Point in Death Valley.
Your Meraviglia address that can’t be missing from our collection.
Verana. Every time I go there I’m always amazed at how good it looks and remember when it was just jungle.
A place you wish was just round the corner.
The Pietra Nova house in Corsica. It has such a good vibe.
