If you could close your eyes and be somewhere else, where would you want to be?
In a desert beach, sunbathing, feeling the breeze, the sand and the sea rolling back and forth while enjoying an amazing naturally fresh juice.
The restaurant where you feel at home.
The restaurant where we feel really at home is our open kitchen and garden patio at ROSA ET AL. We love cooking and we are currently working on a cookbook to come out next year, when we celebrate 3 years opening ROSA ET AL. But there are so many restaurants that happen to take us both back home around the world, like Salta ao Muro in Matosinhos (PT), Ottolenghi, Nopi and Spuntino in London (UK), Benoit in Paris (FR), and many others. We truly live around the table with friends.
A hotel room that makes you nostalgic.
A beautiful charming vintage suite at Taj Lake Palace with an amazing and unforgettable view onto the Aravalli mountains and the city palaces around Lake Pichola, in Udaipur, Rajasthan. India is such a unique place and the Lake Palace truly makes you travel to a golden age of peaceful contemplation.
A travel you could do over and over again without getting bored.
London, London, London. We are always there, it is almost ‘around the corner’ from Porto and we just love to wander through the city’s neighborhoods off the beaten track to find those hidden little markets and parks where you are always surprised by the simple things in life.
A dish that recently surprised you.
Lamb Cutlets… actually at ROSA ET AL just a few days ago. Lamb cutlets with a garden herbs crust, straight from our traditional Porto backyards, now turned into our own ‘horta urbana’, with organic vegetables and herbs. Emanuel cooked them with a side of roasted vegetables from our garden and from our Mom’s village, a few miles south of Porto.
A holiday place from your childhood.
Every summer, we would go down the country by car to Algarve with our Mom and Dad, our Uncles and cousins. It was always a big thing, driving through Portugal it is always a surprise, mixing coastal drives along Costa da Prata, stopping at Nazaré to eat fresh fish from our sea, with deep country drives through shadow tree lined roads and sunflower fields across Alentejo, before you glimpse Alfarrobeiras (Carob), the tree that never dies, and then the wide open sea in front of your eyes. Sun, sea, salty skin and ‘Bolas de Berlim’ (a traditional custard cake sold in the beach)… that’s holidays and our childhood!
If a kid asked you to take him/her on a trip, where would that be?
Definitely Disneyland but we could also take them to ‘Portugal dos Pequenitos’ in Coimbra, Fundação Bissaya-Barreto, another of our childhood memories, where everything was at the right scale, the scale of a 5 year old.
If you could choose a dream place to celebrate, what would that be?
A view you will never forget.
Foz do Douro, our hometown, any sunset, any day. Simple unforgettable.
Your Meraviglia address that can’t be missing from our collection.
ROSA ET AL, our charming townhouse and restaurant in Porto, Portugal. But don’t forget Coutume and Rose Bakery in Paris (FR) or Spuntino in London (UK).
A place you wish it was just round the corner.
London, although it is truly just around the corner from Porto.
