Traveler’s picks

For Thomas (and his Ruth) Brücke 49 is a lifetime dream come true. During his career as marketing and business developer, many times he's imagined working outside and living close to nature. One day, he came to Vals and never left. Every morning, he cooks breakfast for his guests and lives outside close to nature. Every day, Thomas and his Ruth live their dream.

If you could close your eyes and be somewhere else, where would you want to be?

I would love to be on the South Island of New Zealand. The nature there by the sea with all the marine life, the mountains and the friendly people is fantastic.

The restaurant where you feel at home?

I love Italian food. Two of my favourite restaurants are River Café in London and Il Solferino in Milan.

A hotel room that makes you nostalgic.

I find Ett Hem in Stockholm one of the best hotels at the moment.

A travel you could do over and over again without getting bored.

Highway 1 along the Pacific Ocean in California.

A dish that recently surprised you.

Combinations of licorice with chocolate and other desserts.

A holiday place from your childhood.

If a kid asked you to take him/her on a trip, where would that be?

Berlin because it’s still easy to see a few pages of history which I think they should know of and you can combine it with shopping, good food and hotels for a reasonable price.

If you could choose a dream place to celebrate (birthday, wedding…) what would that be?

I would invite friends for an open air party right here where we live on a secret spot where a small river is coming down and you have a fantastic view over the mountains.

A view you will never forget.

I flew for hours in a small sport air-plane very low along the coast line of New Zealand. Above me was a heavy cloud. Below the sea where I could see whales, dolphins and the shadow of the plane. Looking to the sides the beautiful mountains in a changing light from the sun dancing along.

Your Meraviglia address that can’t be missing from our collection?

Brücke 49

A place you wish it was just round the corner?

Le Bon Marché because you sometimes miss the possibility to buy good food etc. Here in the high alps it’s very basic, solid and limited what you can get.
