Amangiri

Amangiri

Utah, USA

Amangiri means “peaceful mountain” and it’s a resort tucked in the Utah desert. You’ll be amazed by the view of such an amazing building blending into its dramatic surrounding. For once in your life you’ll fall asleep in the immense silence of this protected valley.

Briar Patch Inn

Briar Patch Inn

Arizona, USA

These cabins nestled along a quiet river totally blend in the leafy surrounding. Owl, Robin and Eagle. In the early afternoon, when the sun hides behind the red mountains, the buildings are left in the shade and the air gets chilly just like in the mountains. You have wood to burn in your small fireplace. Outside, two resident sheep graze within a small fence. In the early morning, an abundant bio breakfast is served in the common cabin, this also made of wood, among low voices and by a cracking fire. If in Sedona everything holds a sense of spirituality, it’s slow and infused of new age philosophy, this inn is a totally peaceful elegant retreat (Wi-Fi is only available in the main cabin). A much more special and less rustic place than what you would expect from the website.

Shelter Co.

Shelter Co.

California, USA

The Ivy

The Ivy

Los Angeles, USA

The City of Angels is also this: a gathering place for VIPs and VIP watchers where everyone is greeted with the same courtesy. In the courtyard, everything is covered in roses, real or printed, while inside the rooms reveal hints of Provence mixed with the local vintage style. Mediterranean food and excellent cocktails.

Chocolate Tree Organic Oasis

Chocolate Tree Organic Oasis

Arizona, USA

Food doesn’t get any more honest than this. The intention of the family that manages this eatery (also take away and mini market) is: “ChocolaTree is a Sanctuary where each Being can nurture their Authenticity”. The atmosphere is new age and each plate is a tasty combination of healthy ingredients, 100% organic and 100% homemade. Green Goddess Salad, Mediterrean Wrap, Veggie Burger, Kale Quinoa are only some of the Raw Cooked Deliciousness. The big rear garden hosts a food garden and a hammock. This is “superfood” in an oasis of peace, happiness and trust in humankind.

THE PRAIRIE

THE PRAIRIE

Texas, USA

Texas is not within easy reach for everyone. However, if you’ve chosen to get married to a local gaucho, this boutique ranch owned by interior designer Rachel Ashwell could be the perfect fairy-tale setting.

Gjelina

Gjelina

Los Angeles, USA

Gjelina is definitely a hip spot. It’s sociable, young and vibrant. At night, it’s more like a club where they serve food and have a long waiting list for the tables. Low lights, music and voices blend in. The rear courtyard is ideal for lunch or a Sunday brunch. The recipes are typical American but the extensive use of herbs and vegetables reveal a Californian influence. Pizzas are prepared with unusual toppings. They are thin, light, full of flavor and Italian-inspired. Expect to be charged a bit more though. The take-away area is similar to an Italian bio rosticceria. The space is simple but still very much elegant.

WYTHE HOTEL

WYTHE HOTEL

New York, USA

Manhattan is there, past the Hudson, just like living wallpaper. Opened last spring in what once was a textile factory on the Williamsburg waterfront, Wythe hotel is one of NY highlights from last year. If you don’t have the chance to sleep here, make sure you come at least for a bite. Reynards Restaurant, with open-air kitchen, wooden oven and grill, serves daily menus using seasonal ingredients. No room service is available.

Intelligentsia Coffee

Intelligentsia Coffee

Los Angeles, USA

In Silver Lake there’s a coffee shop where the waiters wear hat and gilet, blend teas and coffees as they were cocktails and the queue for cappuccino, brioche and newspaper is long, tidy and quiet. It’s 7am on a Sunday morning and the nearby Griffith Park is the perfect place where to spend the next few hours.

Creatures of the Sea

Creatures of the Sea

Los Angeles, USA

It’s almost 6 o’clock in the morning and the jet lag has just kicked in. In California it’s summer all year around. Not this winter, in a cottage opposite Venice beach, where the cold ocean comes straight into the room. You look at the Havaianas beside your bed and think that’s a silly choice of clothing you packed…

SLOW CLUB

SLOW CLUB

San Francisco, USA

Whenever the menu starts with “Homemade Granola” we feel safe. Just like at the Slow Club. It defines itself as a casual neighbourhood restaurant.
