For designer Leda Athanasopoulou, Patmos it is more than a destination, it is a return. Having spent her childhood summers wandering its narrow, sunlit paths and visiting the homes of family friends—an array of artists, architects, and academics—the island has imprinted itself into her sense of time and beauty. Byzantine, monastic, maritime…Patmos is a place steeped in spiritual history, myth and retreat. With Leda Space, a curated constellation of 18th-century guest houses in the hilltop village of Chora, she steps into the role of an archivist of Patmian memory, sharing her singular perspective and island insights. Named after past owners and local landmarks—Stefania, Sekiari, Ypapanti—each home is a layered offering: ceramics crafted in Lesbos, Venini glass, brassware made in Florence, curtains sewn from vintage textiles. «I have the privilege of first living in these spaces as I am curating them, of seeing what’s missing», says Leda. «When you stay here, it is like I am hosting you in my own home». There is local cheese in the fridge, olive soap by the bath. But it’s the scent—of potpourri, herbs, fresh linen—that leaves the deepest impression. A treasured ritual? Sitting in the garden and listening to birdsong. It’s June. The swallows have returned.
